This update will be a little trickier then normal due to a under-the-hood change to the DVR itself.
Here is a PDF from the Techwin site regarding the upgrade process, but below is hopefully a more friendlier version that I’ve written up.
http://samsungtechwin.com/product/file_data/manual/20100409_1_SVR-1670FW_BootloaderUpgradeProcedure.pdf
Before we begin the update process there is a few things you will need before hand.
1) A computer attached to the network of the DVR. If you can see it through the SVM-S1 auto discovery then you’re fine.
2) You must download this file and have it on the computer, http://samsungtechwin.com/product/file_data/manual/20100409_1_BootloaderUpgrade.zip
3) Have the firmware handy, pick one of the two files depending on how you want to install it
1- VIA Network - http://samsungtechwin.com/product/file_data/manual/20100409_0_NetworkFirmwareUpgrade_v1_2_0_100331.zip
** Probably easier since you’re already on the network
2- VIA USB Drive – http://samsungtechwin.com/product/file_data/manual/20100409_2_svr1670fw_v120_100330.zip
** Remember to unzip the download and only place the unzipped file (should be a .bin) into the USB drive
Okay, now we’ll begin the update process.
1) First we need to place the DVR into a maintenance mode. Turn off the DVR, then while holding the Play/Enter button, power it on.
* It should make it’s normal beep startup sound, followed by a 3 short beeps.
2) If done correctly, after the 3 beeps there should be the image of the DVR stuck on the screen. If that image stays up then we’re in maintenance mode
3) Now, on the computer that’s on the network of the DVR, unzip that Bootloader file we downloaded. You should see two files, a .exe and a .img
4) Open up the “SVR1670_Bootloader_Upgrade.exe” file and it should pop up a window called Samsung Techwin, Network Firmware Upgrade, Bootloader
5) If you’re on the same network, you should be able to click the Discovery button and it should find your DVR. It should fill out your IP and login automatically.
6) At the bottom, click Open and find the .img file that came from the original zip file.
7) Once those are done, you should be able to click Start Upgrade and after a minute or so it should say upgrade successful and the DVR should reboot.
Once this process is done and the DVR is booted up, we will now upgrade the firmware to 1.2
1- If you’re going to upgrade the firmware through the network follow these steps,
1) Unzip the file I proved above, there should be an .exe file, open it
2) Click Discovery to find your DVR
3) Then click Upgrade Start
4) Unit should now reboot
2- If you’re upgrading through a USB drive, please use the following steps,
1) As listed above, make sure you’ve unzipped the download and placed the unzipped .bin file on the thumbdrive
2) Plug the drive in, and go through the menu to the following, System Setup > Firmware Update
3) A confirmation window will pop up, hit yes. The update should take place and the DVR will reboot
And there we have it, your DVR is updated to 1.2
